There are times when carpet stains are inevitable. Imagine going into your living room while holding your favorite drink, trying very carefully not to spill a single drop from your glass, cup, mug, or container. Then, while concentrating on the drink, you don’t watch where you’re going and stub your toe against the leg of your coffee table (ouch!). What happens next is that either a part of your drink gets spilled over a portion of your carpet, or the entire glass comes falling down, spilling your drink all over your nice floor.
Do not cry over spilled milk (or whatever it is that just got spilled) and act quickly. Carpet stains tend to dry up fast, and when they do, they are insanely hard to remove. Listed below are some common carpet stains and carpet stain removal tips.
For beer, wine, coffee, and cola
If the beverage that you’ve just dropped is wine, cola, beer, or coffee, grab paper towels and blot the stain as much as you can. Spray the area with clean water then continuously blot the stain so that it stays wet. Don’t let the stain dry up.
While continuing with the blotting process, neutralize the stain with a white vinegar solution. The mixture should be made of 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 3/4 cup of water. Soak the spot with the solution then, once again, continue to blot to remove excess moisture while still keeping the stain wet.
If the stain has not lifted after several attempts, mix 1 teaspoon of dish detergent into the stain then continue the blotting process.
Never use dish soap as it contains bleach or lanolin. These chemicals can, and will damage your carpet.
If you’ve just spilled a pulpy beverage onto your nice carpets, there are still proper ways on how to get the stain removed and do proper carpet cleaning techniques on it.
First of all, get a dull knife and scrape off all the pulp and excess solids off of the carpet. A wet vacuum will work wonders in this situation.
If the spot had already dried, saturate it with water until the excess moisture has been lifted.
Blood or vomit
It’s not just drinks that may get spilled as there are times when certain accidents can occur above the carpet. To clean blood or vomit, neutralize the stain with an ammonia solution. The mixture will be made of 1 tablespoon of ammonia and about 3/4 cup of water. As with other stains, continue soaking the spot with the solution and blotting it until the stain is completely removed.
